Pumpkin Math: A Spooky Math Review Game
Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with a fun and engaging Halloween math review? This spooky-themed activity is perfect for students of all ages. It’s a great way to reinforce math concepts while keeping students excited and involved. Check out the video below for a brief overview!
What You’ll Need:
- A set of math review questions (bonus if they are Halloween themed!)
- A plastic pumpkin
- Water beads
- Eyeballs or other small objects to represent points
How to Play:
- Prepare the Pumpkin: Fill the plastic pumpkin with water beads and insert the eyeballs or other objects, making sure they are clearly labeled with positive and negative point values.
- Divide Students: Divide students into pairs or small groups.
- Start the Game: Have students work together to answer the questions. Once a group finishes a question or a set of questions, they can bring their answers to you for checking. If their answers are correct, they can choose an eyeball from the pumpkin. The eyeball will be labeled with either a positive or negative point value.
- Keep Score: Students can track their scores throughout the game. Their scores will fluctuate as they choose eyeballs with both positive and negative points.
Here are 5 ways to determine the winner of your Halloween math activity:
- Highest Total Score: The group with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.
- Closest to Zero: The group whose score is closest to zero (either positive or negative) wins.
- Most Positive Score: The group with the highest positive score wins.
- Least Negative Score: The group with the least negative score wins.
