Make a Hanging Classroom Calendar
Creating a Hanging Math Calendar for Your Classroom
Creating a fun and interactive classroom is so important for getting students excited about learning. One great way to do this is with a hanging math calendar. It’s a fantastic visual tool that helps kids learn about dates and even math concepts in an engaging way. In this post, I’ll guide you through the steps to make your own hanging math calendar. It’s a simple project that will not only add some color to your classroom but also give your students a hands-on learning experience.

Supplies Needed
I linked all the supplies I use HERE.
- Math calendar pieces (two options listed below)
- Bright paper or paper in a color scheme that matches your classroom
- Laminator and laminating sheets
- Hole punch
- 1″ Binder rings
- Magnetic rod (this is the best one I have found – HERE)

Step 1: Print Out the Pieces of the Calendar
Start by printing out the pieces of your calendar. Choose bright paper or a color scheme that matches your classroom décor. Regular weight paper works best for this project as it is easy to handle and durable enough for daily use. Check out the calendar pieces below ⬇️
Step 2: Laminate the Pieces
Once you have printed all the pieces, the next step is to laminate them. Laminating the pieces will ensure they last throughout the school year and can withstand the wear and tear from frequent handling by students. After laminating, carefully cut out each piece.
Step 3: Hole Punch the Pieces and Connect with Binder Rings
To make your calendar pieces easy to hang, hole punch each piece on both sides. Use the first piece as a sample to ensure that the holes are consistently placed on each piece. This step is crucial for ensuring that your calendar hangs evenly and looks neat. Group your pieces with binder rings that fit around your rod.
Step 4: Hang on the Magnetic Rod
Magnetic rod (this is the best one I have found – HERE)
Finally, use a magnetic rod to hang your calendar pieces. Most white boards are also magnetic so you can put the calendar right on your board. A magnetic rod is a great option because it allows you to easily rearrange the pieces as needed and keeps everything securely in place.
Creating a hanging math calendar is a fun and effective way to incorporate interactive learning into your classroom. By following these steps, you can create a beautiful and functional calendar that your students will love.
