When Malia, a TPT author coach, and I, Annette from count on kupe, recorded our first episode of TPT Chats: Our Journey, Your Next Step, we kicked things off with the big question: Why did we start a TPT store? Click below to watch more about our story!
Episode 1: Why we started a TPT store
For me, Annette, it all began in 2017. I was determined to do things right from the start, so I dove into research—reading blogs, learning best practices, and trying to create a strong foundation from day one. I wanted to avoid redoing work down the line and ensure I could focus on creating quality resources.
Malia’s journey was different. She started her TPT store in April of 2020, during the pandemic. “I had all these resources I needed to convert to digital,” she shared. “I thought, why not just put it on TPT and help other teachers?” For her, it was about meeting a need and sharing resources that could make a difference in a challenging time.
Starting wasn’t easy for either of us. We didn’t know all the answers, and our first products were far from perfect. But what kept us going was clarity about our “why.” Maybe yours is about financial freedom, sharing your creative teaching, or just exploring a creative outlet. Whatever it is, it’ll guide you.
Here’s our advice:
- Start simple. Your first product won’t be perfect, and that’s okay. Mine was a basic math activity, and it sold because it met a need.
- Lean on the community. Find other sellers, ask questions, and celebrate progress. You don’t have to do this alone.
Every TPT seller starts at zero. It’s normal to feel unsure, but taking that first step is what matters. So, what’s your “why”? Share it with us! And don’t forget to tune into our next TPT Chats, where we’ll dive into choosing the right tool for creating resources.
Your journey is just beginning—and it’s one worth taking.
Welcome to TPT Chats with Annette Kuperus & Malia Rivera.
